BEQ Building 26 Upgrade - Naval Medical Center

The BEQ Building 26 upgrade was a fast-track, design-build renovation and seismic upgrade of a six-story concrete building over three-stories of concrete basement using new, high-tech composite materials and procedures. Work proceeded around occupied areas which remained operational for the Navy's flagship medical center. A three dimensional analysis was used to develop an alternate solution for savings of both time and money in the construction process.

This project was nominated for the 2003 Charles Pankow Award for Innovation. Innovative use of fiber reinforced epoxy composite materials and tieback construction resulted in a 50% reduction of occupant downtime and a cost savings of over $500,000 relative to typical construction procedures.

This project also received the "National Design-Build Rehabilitation / Renovation / Restoration, Design-Build Excellence Award, 2003"
