Our History
Structural Engineers Scott Stedman and Robert Dyson
founded Stedman & Dyson Structural
Engineers in January 1980, locating
their first office in downtown San Diego
on Grape Street. By 1983, the start-up
partnership's workload and staff
increased to include the addition of
Michael Gardner as project engineer, and
the practice was relocated to Thorn
Street and then subsequently to Old
Town.
By 1987, Stedman & Dyson took the
milestone step of incorporating. The
growing firm decided in 1990 to move to
larger and more centrally located spaces
at 8989 Rio San Diego Drive in the
Mission Valley area of San Diego. Though
the 1990's brought a depressed economy
which severely impacted the construction
industry, Stedman & Dyson maintained a
pattern of steady growth by pursuing
diverse projects with loyal clientele
and by continuing to add topnotch staff.
In 1993, the firm appointed Michael Gardner
as Principal. Soon thereafter, Daniel Korntved, S.E., and Christopher Kamp,
S.E., joined the firm bringing with them
18 and 19 years respectively of
structural design and engineering
experience. Both Korntved and Kamp were
appointed as Principals by 1997. That same year also brought the
retirement of Scott Stedman. Mr. Stedman
was anxious to move into active
retirement to the Central California
Coast.
By 1999, continued growth in both staff and
projects precipitated another relocation
of the corporate office to larger spaces
at 3838 Camino Del Rio North in Mission
Valley, and by the summer of 2003, the
firm expanded into an adjacent suite.
Today, Stedman & Dyson Structural Engineers as
SDSE continues to provide the same
hands-on service to an increasing client
base in a distinctly different world
than when we first began. The relevance
of our profession and the need for
quality engineering has never before
been so clear.
Our current staff consists of eight
licensed Structural Engineers, one
licensed Civil Engineer, three CAD/REVIT
drafters, and two
administrative personnel. Together, our
staff comprises an unequaled team
of consulting Structural Engineering
design professionals.
