This Design/Build project involved the
structural design and detailing of a 4-story, 87,000 square foot, Bachelor
Enlisted Quarters for 200+ personnel. It is one of three separate
barracks buildings constructed between the former NAS Miramar and the MCB at Camp Pendleton.
This project was one of the early design/build projects administered by
the Navy Facilities Engineering Command and required the successful team
to use "modular" construction. The design build team chose to employ the
use of a pre-cast, pre-stressed hollow core plank (with concrete
topping) floor system supported on site-built, CMU modular panels. These
one-story high by approximately 24 feet long,
masonry panels were built on a separate "fabrication" slab and then
lifted into place. The project included a structural steel and masonry,
3,000 square feet Activity Center and a structural steel Picnic Pavilion.
