San Pasqual Battlefield State Park honors soldiers who fought in the
battle between the U.S. and Mexican or California forces during the
Mexican-American war. The one-story concrete complex serves as an
observation gallery, theater, cultural displays and amphitheater;
utilizing passive energy including solar power wind scoops, skylights,
and native topsoil over its roof. By building into the hillside
overlooking the battlefield, a public use facility was created without
intruding into the landscape of this historic site.
